ABOUT MATILDA
Matilda is a little girl with wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her parents but bonds with her schoolteacher, Miss Honey. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, as the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. Families will be spellbound by this magical hit Broadway musical inspired by the Rohld Dahl book which inspired the classic 90’s movie.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Aimee Kasprzyk served briefly as the producer and director of the Warehouse Children’s Company in the early ‘90’s. She was last seen as M’Lynn in the hit WLAC production of Steel Magnolias and last directed the highly praised The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and To Kill a Mockingbird on the WLAC stage. She is also proud to serve on the WLAC Board.

CAST OF CHARACTERS
“Matilda Wormwood” - Youth Female
An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched. Likable and charismatic, not annoying or pretentious. Honest and unassuming, but with a prankster streak and a strong sense of justice. Must be a very strong singer and actress, equally.
Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: A3

“Miss Agatha Trunchbull” - Adult Male or Female
The tyrannical headmistress at Matilda's school who despises children. Male in female clothing/makeup/hair, or female. A cruel and sadistic person, but not a brute or brash - rather, sly and conniving, cunning and slinky. Above all, must be a strong actor with a good sense of physicality and characterization.
Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: A2

“Miss Jennifer Honey” - Adult Female
Matilda's kindhearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull. Sweet, honest, caring, and intelligent, Miss Honey is timid but willing to become brave and stand up to bullies in order to protect her students. Must be a lovely, strong singer and a strong enough actor to make the role truly compelling.

BEFORE THE AUDITION:

-- Double Check the performance schedule before you audition. It's disappointing to audition, get a part and then find that rehearsals interfere with classes or that you'll be out of town during the 2 weeks the play goes on.  Rehearsals and performances occur weeknights and on weekends and generally begin within a week of being cast.

-- If possible, read the script and familiarize yourself with the characters.  Knowing the characters will help you to decide for which part or parts to audition. Scripts can be borrowed from the theater.

AT THE AUDITION:

-- Be on time!

-- Wear clothes that are reasonable for the audition and are comfortable.

-- Fill out an Audition Sheet. If this is your first show, then great! Awesome to have you. If you have done shows before it helps to bring a list with you so you do not have to try to remember on the spot. If you have done a lot of shows, only list those that are most recent, biggest roles, and/or from similar styles of shows.

-- Be courteous and professional. Remember you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and your audition lasts from the minute you walk in the auditorium until the moment you leave.

-- Most auditions consist of "cold readings" from the scripts. That means you will be asked to read some of the dialogue from the show, sometimes with other people sometimes by yourself. Don't worry if you stumble over words, we're looking for energy and character choices.

-- Relax; auditions do not have to be a painful process.  Give it your best shot and HAVE FUN!

"It is the policy of the Warehouse Living Arts Center to cast regardless of race, color or disability.  Casting of actors in roles is done on the basis of acting skill and ability demonstrated during the audition process, as well as on the actor’s appropriateness and suitability (physical, vocal, mental, emotional) for available roles.  Being invited to an audition does not guarantee that a person will be cast.  Occasionally, a cast may be expanded to accommodate a large turnout of talent.
