Imaginative, funny, and heartbreaking, Zink is the story of a pre-teen girl and a herd of talking African zebras she meets when she is diagnosed with leukemia. The herd include street-smart Ice Z, grandfatherly Papa Zeke, and pompous Zilch, along with Shlep, a furry green monkey who is certain he's also a zebra. The herd recounts to her the legend of Zink, a mythical polka-dotted zebra, an outcast turned hero. As Becky's condition worsens and she is mistreated by some classmates, she zaps back and forth between real life and the zebra world, until the shattering, breathtaking, and uplifting climax.
